The leaders of the G7 countries declared that the framework agreement between the United States and Iran represents a 'historic opportunity' to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons, according to a statement issued in Evian-les-Bains, France.
The agreement, which is set to be signed on Friday, could bring 'peace and security' to the region, and the G7 offers to contribute to its implementation. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the G7 emphasizes the importance of free transit.
Additionally, the leaders are calling for a 'robust diplomatic agreement' to address Iranian threats. The G7 supports Lebanon's efforts to disarm Hezbollah and reaffirms support for Ukraine, including by intensifying sanctions against Russia. The summit also addressed the issue of debts of developing countries, highlighting the need for a preventive debt restructuring.
Criticism has been raised by organizations such as Oxfam, which calls for an increase in international aid.
