French navy intercepted a new Russian oil tanker, under international sanctions. Emmanuel Macron's message after the interception: "It is unacceptable"

The French navy boarded the oil tanker Tagor on Sunday, which was under international sanctions and had departed from Russia, announced President Emmanuel Macron on his X account.

The operation took place in the Atlantic Ocean, over 400 nautical miles off Brittany, with the support of international partners, including the United Kingdom. Macron emphasized that it is unacceptable for ships to evade international sanctions and finance Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Atlantic Maritime Prefecture stated that the intervention was motivated by suspicions regarding the nationality of the vessel, which was flying a false flag. After inspection, the ship was redirected in accordance with international law. France and the United Kingdom have committed to stopping ships from Russia's "phantom fleet" that continue to navigate in their territorial waters, despite the imposed sanctions.
