France's Constitutional Council has declared the reintroduction of the pesticide acetamiprid unconstitutional, saying it violates the environment charter.

The Constitutional Council's decision comes in reaction to opposition from civil society, environmentalists and doctors, who collected 2 million signatures against the reintroduction of the pesticide, banned in 2020. The Duplomb law, proposed by a conservative MP, has been criticized for its impact on public health and the environment. President Macron will promulgate the law without the contested sections, while beetroot and peanut growers express frustration at the lack of effective alternatives.
