French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, announced that France will open a consulate in Greenland on February 6, emphasizing the commitment to strengthen the French presence on the island. This decision, announced by President Emmanuel Macron during a visit in June, comes in response to the United States' threats to take control of Greenland, a territory of strategic importance. Barrot denounced these threats as "blackmail" and reaffirmed that Greenland is not for sale, arguing that attacking a NATO member would be contrary to U.S. interests. At the same time, the Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers will meet at the White House to discuss the crisis generated by these threats. Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, reiterated that the island will not be controlled by the United States.
