France and Spain are facing some of the most severe wildfires in recent years, and the French government has called an emergency meeting. President Emmanuel Macron led the discussions as the fires continue to affect several regions, including the southwest of France, where 240 houses have been destroyed in Gironde. Nearly 2,500 firefighters, 1,500 soldiers, and 1,200 police officers are involved in the fight against the fires, and 84 firefighters have been injured. A rare phenomenon known as pyrocumulonimbus has been generated by the fire, with the potential to cause new outbreaks. In Spain, the fire around the city of Avila has been described as a 'monster,' with 75,000 people evacuated. Although authorities hope to reopen some areas, the fires are still not under control, and winds continue to cause additional evacuations.
