The incident took place in November 2023, when Sandrine Josso attended a celebration for Joël Guerriau's electoral victory. After a few campaign drinks, she felt a strange taste and immediately left the senator's residence. Medical tests confirmed the presence of the drug ecstasy in her blood, and investigators found the same substance in the home of the 68-year-old politician. After the sentencing, Josso expressed satisfaction, while Guerriau's lawyers announced that they would appeal, claiming that the incident was a gesture of negligence. The court accepted evidence indicating the sexual intent of the accused. Guerriau resigned from his position in October 2025, and his case amplified pressure on authorities to amend legislation regarding rape and sexual assaults, thus aligning France with other European states with stricter laws.
