Harvey Weinstein, convicted again for sexual assault. The verdict comes after the 2020 conviction was overturned

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in prison for the sexual assault committed against Miriam Haley, a former TV production assistant, in a case that traversed the American judicial system for more than six years. The retrial took place after New York’s highest court overturned, in 2024, the conviction handed down in 2020.

Weinstein was found guilty for the second time of committing a first-degree criminal sexual act. According to the allegations, he pushed Miriam Haley into a bedroom in his Manhattan apartment and sexually assaulted her in 2006. The offense for which he was convicted is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

The court’s 2024 decision was based on the fact that Weinstein was allegedly prejudiced by the testimony of other women, whose allegations were not part of the initial trial. The case was retried last year, and Wednesday’s verdict represents a new conviction for the former film producer.

Weinstein was publicly accused for the first time in 2017 and arrested in 2018. He has already served more than six years in prison and has consistently denied raping or sexually assaulting anyone.
