Thorbjørn Jagland, former Prime Minister of Norway and chairman of the Nobel Committee, is facing an investigation by the Norwegian police, Økokrim, for suspicions of aggravated corruption related to his interactions with Jeffrey Epstein. Authorities have announced that there are reasonable grounds for investigation, considering the positions held by Jagland during the period in which the revelations were made. In 2018, Jagland discussed with Epstein the possibility of connecting him with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Additionally, in correspondence from 2012 and 2013, Jagland mentioned "extraordinary girls" from Albania and expressed a desire to visit Epstein's island, although he stated that he had never been there. The police will check whether Jagland received gifts or loans related to his position. Although he benefits from immunity as a former Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Norwegian Foreign Minister has requested its revocation. The Council of Europe confirmed that it investigated Jagland's meetings with Epstein but found no evidence that they were related to official business.
