Former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed at the age of 69 in his home in eastern Tehran, following an airstrike, according to the Ilna news agency.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was president from 2005 to 2013, but became a controversial figure, criticized for his policies, especially regarding Iran's nuclear program, which led to international sanctions.
At the same time, the Israeli army announced that it had killed 40 Iranian high-ranking officials, including supreme leader Ali Khamenei, as part of an extensive military operation. This was described as one of the largest air operations in Israel's history, causing hundreds of casualties.
