A team from the American federal police (FBI) is in Cuba to investigate a shooting incident that took place on February 25 between the Cuban coast guard and a vessel registered in the United States.
The incident resulted in the death of five occupants of the vessel, while another five have been accused by Cuban authorities of "terrorism," being suspected of transporting weapons and attempting to destabilize the government.
This FBI visit occurs in a context of rising tensions between the US and Cuba, following the oil blockade imposed by American President Donald Trump. A representative of the American embassy stated that the FBI will verify the information and will determine what happened independently. Havana claims that the occupants of the ship had hostile intentions, and American Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the incursion was not a US operation.
