The Mexican navy has announced the deployment of search operations for two missing sailboats that were transporting humanitarian aid to Cuba.
The vessels left Isla Mujeres last Friday and were supposed to arrive in Havana between Tuesday and Wednesday. So far, communication with them has not been established. The crisis in Cuba has worsened, with seven widespread power outages since 2024, caused by outdated thermoelectric plants and fuel shortages, exacerbated by the suspension of oil deliveries from Venezuela.
The United States threatens sanctions against countries selling fuel to the island. In this context, the first ship from a flotilla carrying medical, food aid, and solar panels arrived in Cuba on Tuesday.
