A polar air mass from Antarctica has brought extremely cold temperatures to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, causing at least 15 deaths. Nine homeless people died in Argentina and Buenos Aires recorded -1.9°C, the lowest in 34 years. The Argentinian government suspended gas supplies to industry to protect households. Uruguay declared a red alert and Chile activated accommodation plans for the homeless. The weather is expected to improve in the coming days.
