French President Emmanuel Macron announces on Tuesday that his "visit continues" in Damascus, after two bombs exploded in front of the hotel where he spent the night in the capital of Syria.

Emmanuel Macron left the hotel just a few minutes before the explosions, heading to the presidential palace located outside the capital. This is the first visit by a Western head of state since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad from power on December 8, 2024, by an Islamist coalition.
