Noelia Castillo Ramos, a 25-year-old woman from Barcelona, will be euthanized this evening, after a long battle with physical and mental suffering caused by two rapes. In 2022, Noelia was raped by her ex-boyfriend and three boys, and later attempted to commit suicide by falling from the fifth floor, an accident that left her paraplegic.

Suffering from severe and chronic pain, Noelia requested euthanasia, and her request was approved under Spanish law that allows assisted death in cases of irreversible suffering. Although her father vehemently opposed the decision, the courts rejected all of his appeals. In an emotional interview, Noelia stated that she wishes to leave in peace, emphasizing that her family's happiness cannot be more important than her life. This situation has sparked intense debates about euthanasia and the right to self-determination in the face of suffering.
