The European Parliament voted 531 in favor of Bulgaria's accession to the euro area. MEP Siegfried Muresan stressed that Bulgaria meets all the necessary technical conditions. Accession will take place on 1 January 2026 and Bulgaria will become the 21st country in the eurozone, facilitating trade and giving it a seat on the European Central Bank's governing council. Currently, only six EU countries remain outside the single currency area.
