Chișinău, November 7, 2025 – The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, inaugurated on Friday, November 7, the permanent office of the institution in Chișinău, a gesture described as a demonstration of Europe's firm commitment to its partners in the region.
The opening of this European Parliament office in the Republic of Moldova takes place in a context of heightened geopolitical tensions and renewed momentum for EU expansion. The event is considered a strong political signal of solidarity, partnership, and support for the authorities, civil society, and citizens throughout the entire Eastern Partnership region.
The European Parliament stands with Moldova and all our friends in the Eastern Partnership. Today we open this office in Chișinău as a tangible expression of our belief in Moldova's future within the European family, said President Metsola at the inauguration.
This decision reflects the European Parliament's determination to deepen its commitment to these countries. In a report adopted in June 2025, MEPs recognized that the relationship between the EU and Moldova has entered a new phase, characterized by increased cooperation and sustained efforts from the government in Chișinău to align its national legislation with the EU acquis.
The new office will serve to promote the positions and activities of the European Parliament and to support democracy and institutional reforms in the region. It will also facilitate the preparation and monitoring of official visits by MEPs and strengthen cooperation with other EU actors and international organizations on the ground.
