After intense negotiations, the European Commission has put forward a budget proposal of €2 trillion for the period 2028-2035, which represents an increase in spending power to 1.26% of the EU's gross national income. President Ursula von der Leyen underlined that this budget is the most ambitious ever, designed to meet today's challenges and strengthen Europe's independence, including the repayment of post-Covid debts.
