How Europe tries to prevent Trump from destabilizing NATO (Politico)

Europe is facing a new challenge in managing NATO, considering the unpredictability of Donald Trump's foreign policy.

The sudden change in his position regarding the deployment of American troops in Poland has generated confusion and uncertainty among European leaders, who met at the GLOBSEC Forum in Prague.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski described the situation as a "misunderstanding," stating that "everything is fine when it ends well" and downplayed tensions with Washington, which he labeled as "just a small incident." However, he acknowledged that the contradictory messages coming from Washington had a negative impact on relations. Petr Pavel stated that the main issue was not the withdrawal of troops per se, but the lack of information and communication regarding this decision.

The NATO summit in July in Ankara will address the question of whether Europe should continue to depend on American weaponry or develop its own defense capabilities. In this context, internal tensions in Europe are rising as countries seek quick solutions to face external threats, especially from Russia.
