The Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, warned that Europe could have only six weeks of fuel for airplanes, with reserves reaching a critical level in June, if imports from the Middle East are not replaced. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for fuel transport, has been closed by Iran, causing a rise in prices and fears of shortages.

The IEA emphasized that exports from the Persian Gulf represent the main source of fuel for aviation, and refineries in other countries are dependent on imports from this region. Although exports from the U.S. have accelerated, they cannot compensate for the losses, and flight cancellations could occur if supply remains blocked. Jet fuel prices have reached a record level, and the European Commission has acknowledged potential supply issues in the near future. Airlines, such as EasyJet, have reported additional costs due to the conflict in the Middle East, generating uncertainty regarding costs and demand.
