Discussions between the European Union and the United States for the implementation of a trade agreement ended Wednesday evening without a concrete result, despite pressures from the Trump administration. This situation risks straining relations with President Trump, who has threatened with 25% tariffs on European car manufacturers.
The European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, urged negotiators to reach a compromise, but after six hours of discussions, no agreement was reached. MEP Karin Karlsbro emphasized the importance of an agreement that can withstand Trump's pressures. Although the EU agreed to eliminate tariffs on American industrial goods, it failed to translate this promise into legislation, causing Trump's dissatisfaction. MEPs adopted a tougher stance, demanding additional conditions for the agreement. Negotiators hope to finalize discussions by July, but the U.S. ambassador warned that the entire agreement is in jeopardy.
