The EU imposes sanctions against several Russian agencies / Romania, among the countries targeted by cyber attacks

The EU has adopted new sanctions against a new individual and four entities for acts of cyber espionage and sabotage attributed to Russia, targeting EU member states, including Romania, as well as its international partners.

The sanctioned individuals are intelligence officers from the FSB, as well as "private companies that contribute to Russia's efforts to destabilize the EU."

"These activities included infiltrating government networks and sabotaging critical infrastructure. Among the targeted countries were France, Germany, Poland, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, and Finland. In France, 'Center 16' has been conducting cyber espionage activities against strategic government entities since 2010, as well as against the defense industry. In Germany, it targeted government entities. Recently, in Poland, 'Center 16' carried out sabotage operations aimed at disrupting the activities of critical infrastructure, including cogeneration plants," the EU states, emphasizing that Center 16 effectively controls groups such as Turla.

For the first time, Romania has proposed sanctions against six entities it accuses of cyber attacks

"These are entities that have targeted our critical IT infrastructure and our essential sites," said Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu, according to EuroNews.
