The Foreign Ministers of the European Union adopted on Monday the broadest expansion of the sanctions list against Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. The measures target nearly 1,600 individuals and entities that the EU says support Moscow’s military-industrial complex.
More than half of the new additions are linked to the ballistic missile production chain. According to the EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, the sanctions aim to make the production of weapons used by Russia in the war against Ukraine more difficult, slower, and more expensive. She presented the decision as proof of European unity.
