Estonia's new law specifically targets the Russian Orthodox Church, forcing it to sever ties with the Moscow Patriarchate. The law allows religious activities that support war or terrorism to be considered a threat to national security. It also requires members of the governing bodies of religious organizations to be legal residents of Estonia. The measure reflects similar trends in Lithuania and Latvia, where Orthodox churches have been under pressure to distance themselves from Moscow.
