The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has decided to recommend the approval of the tablet version of Wegovy, the weight loss medication developed by the Danish company Novo Nordisk.
This decision could provide a temporary advantage over the American rival Eli Lilly in the European market, considering that Novo Nordisk would become the first company with an authorized weight loss tablet in Europe. In the United States, the oral form of Wegovy has had significant success, being prescribed for 1.3 million patients in the first quarter of 2026. However, Eli Lilly recently obtained authorization for its similar product, complicating the competition. In the injection segment, Eli Lilly dominates the market with its products Mounjaro and Zepbound, and Novo Nordisk has been forced to reduce the price of injectable Wegovy due to competition.
