This investment, decades overdue, will help the Iberian Peninsula to overcome its energy isolation and strengthen the European Union's energy system. Calvino underlined the importance of this initiative in the context of energy security and strategic autonomy, noting that the EIB finances 40% of Europe's energy infrastructure.
