The European Court of Human Rights has handed down two landmark decisions holding Russia responsible for human rights violations in the context of the war in Ukraine and its involvement in the downing of flight MH17 in 2014. This is the first international court to formally recognize Russia's guilt, and the decisions come following complaints filed by Ukraine and the Netherlands. The families of the MH17 victims also see the decisions as an important step towards justice, given that all 298 passengers perished in the tragedy.
