The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Greece violated the right to life and criticized the investigation into the death of Ameer Mokhlas, an Iraqi minor shot dead by the coast guard in 2015 during a migrant interception operation. The ECHR found that the Greek authorities failed to carry out an adequate investigation and failed to take measures to minimize the risks to passengers. Greece will pay €80,000 in moral damages to the victim's parents.
