On Sunday, Kosovo will have early elections, a crucial vote for the political future of the country and its progress towards European integration. The ruling party, Vetëvendosje, led by interim Prime Minister Albin Kurti, won the February elections with 42% of the votes, but failed to secure the majority needed to form a stable government. Its populist approach and efforts to assert sovereignty in the north of the country have led to a deterioration of relations with the US and the EU, resulting in punitive measures.

The opposition, including the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), does not collaborate with Kurti and considers him an obstacle to integration into NATO and the EU. There is a possibility that these parties will form a coalition to avoid another political deadlock. Although Kurti claims that his government has made progress, Kosovo's request for EU membership remains stagnant.
