Early elections have been called partly in the wake of Donald Trump's speech about the US' desire to take control of Greenland. The leader of Greenland's ruling party, Erik Jensen, announced that if re-elected, he would speed up the process of independence for the territory. He acknowledged that Trump's intervention indirectly contributed to the decision to call early elections.
