A drone that crashed in northeastern Lithuania over the weekend has been confirmed to be loaded with explosives, according to authorities.

The incident occurred in a field in the Utena district, about 100 kilometers north of Vilnius, and the drone was deactivated by a controlled explosion. Lithuanian police suspect that the drone originated from Ukraine, considering it may have been launched by Ukrainian forces targeting sites in northwestern Russia.

The moment the drone entered Lithuanian airspace and its route remain unclear. Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene convened a meeting of the National Security Council, emphasizing that, although there is no immediate threat to the population, recent incidents involving drones represent an increasing security challenge.

Ukrainian drones have previously penetrated the airspace of the Baltic states, possibly due to electronic jamming by Russian forces.
