The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) reported a drone attack on the tanker 'NISSOS SIFNOS', which was in the process of loading at the terminal area in Novorossiisk, on July 30, 2026.
Following the attack, a fire broke out on the cargo deck, but it was extinguished by the ship's crew, without causing injuries or oil spills. The oil loading was halted, but pipeline operations continue normally. Another tanker, 'MARATHI', was also attacked near the terminal. CPC emphasized that attacks on international energy infrastructure are unacceptable, despite calls from Kazakhstan and other stakeholders.
The CPC system is essential for transporting oil from Kazakhstan to global markets, and Romania relies on this pipeline for over half of its oil imports, most of which are processed at the Petromidia refinery. Ilie Bolojan recently discussed with his counterpart in Kazakhstan the security of Romania's oil supply.
