Severe floods in Vietnam have caused the death of 90 people, and another 12 are missing, according to the Ministry of Environment. Heavy rains, with precipitation of over 1,900 mm in some areas, have severely affected the south and center of the country, flooding well-known tourist destinations. Regions such as Dak Lak have been the most affected, with tens of thousands of houses flooded. Rescuers have intervened with boats to help isolated locals and have brought food to the flooded hospitals. Over 235,000 houses and nearly 80,000 hectares of crops have suffered damage, and the economic costs are estimated at 341 million dollars. Extreme weather phenomena have led to the death of 279 people this year, and researchers warn that climate change exacerbates these situations. Regions in the north have already been affected by floods following typhoons, and authorities expect new floods in the coming days.
