Heavy vegetation fires have broken out on Turkey's west coast amid an extreme heat wave. One of the largest fires, south of Izmir, is advancing rapidly towards the Menderes district, with winds of 70-100 km/h making aerial intervention difficult. Authorities have evacuated several residential and tourist areas and residents are trying to protect their homes from the flames.
