On Saturday, over 300 Greek firefighters are fighting to save the spa resort of Porto Germeno, located in the Gulf of Corinth, in the context of devastating wildfires. The strong wind gusts, reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h, complicate the interventions, and some helicopters have been redirected to other fires in the Peloponnese.

The fire broke out on Friday near the village of Agios Vasileios, and locals initially ignored evacuation calls, leading to the evacuation of approximately 300 people by sea. The damage is considerable, with an affected area estimated at over 4,000–5,000 hectares. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned that Greece is heading towards "difficult days," considering that the country is affected by the climate crisis and that wildfires are common every summer. Recent fires have resulted in loss of life, including the deaths of three firefighters.
