A massive fire on the island of Crete has led to the evacuation of more than 1,000 people and destroyed large areas of forest and olive groves. More than 230 firefighters, supported by helicopters, are fighting the blaze. The Greek authorities warn Romanian tourists to be aware of traffic restrictions and to follow instructions in case of alerts. The heatwave is also affecting other European countries, causing deaths and fires. Climate change is contributing to these extreme events.
