Three villages evacuated in Greece due to the flames that engulfed two factories

A vegetation fire broke out on Saturday near Thessaloniki, Greece, continuing to wreak havoc throughout the night.

The flames engulfed two factories, prompting the evacuation of three villages - Anthoupoli, Filothei, and Galini - as well as a care center for 157 people with disabilities. By Sunday morning, the fire was largely under control, with no active front, according to the fire service. A massive operation was launched, involving 160 firefighters, 52 fire engines, planes, and helicopters, focusing on preventing the re-ignition of the flames.

Thick black smoke covered the city, and the mayor warned residents about the risks of toxicity. A 76-year-old man was arrested, suspected of causing the fire through the reckless operation of his vehicle. He will be questioned by prosecutors.
