The fire near Les Pennes-Mirabeau spread rapidly, reaching 1.2 kilometers per minute. By Tuesday evening, there were no fatalities but 100 people were injured, including nine firefighters. Nearly 400 people, including 71 residents of a nursing home, were evacuated. Authorities suspended flights and closed sections of highways, mobilizing 800 firefighters to fight the blaze.
