A major forest fire broke out in the tourist town of Omis, located on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of residents and threatening homes and vehicles. The flames, fueled by strong winds and high temperatures, have injured 19 people and destroyed several homes. Authorities have prepared for evacuation by sea and a shelter for approximately 1,000 people, converting the local gym into a refuge.

Firefighters, with the help of 157 specialists and 44 fire trucks, fought the fire throughout the night, receiving reinforcements from other regions. The city's deputy mayor, Ivan Pavicevic, stated that the fire continues to spread, destroying homes and threatening other properties. Croatia is facing a heatwave, and authorities have reported a significant increase in vegetation fires this year, with nearly 10,000 hectares affected.
