A large fire broke out on Tuesday evening in the city of Oita, on the island of Kyushu in Japan, affecting at least 170 buildings and prompting the evacuation of 115 households, totaling 175 people. Firefighters continued to fight against the flames that spread to a nearby forest. Video recordings show the huge flames that turned the sky red, while strong winds contributed to the spread of the fire. The Oita prefectural government has requested military assistance to cope with the situation. One person is reported missing, and 300 homes remain without electricity. Residents were forced to evacuate quickly, taking only essential items with them.
