A devastating fire broke out in the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in the Tai Po district of Hong Kong, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a firefighter, and injuring three others. The flames spread rapidly, covering the area with thick black smoke, and several residents were trapped in their apartments. The fire was initially classified as a level 1 alarm but was quickly raised to level 4, indicating the severity of the situation.
Residents expressed frustration at the speed with which the fire spread and questioned the effectiveness of the authorities' response. The residential complex has nearly 2,000 apartments and houses about 4,000 residents, and rescuers continue to work to evacuate those trapped.
