At least eight people have died and around 40 have been injured following a devastating fire that broke out on Tuesday in a shopping center in the city of Andisheh, located about 30 km from Tehran. The shopping center, which houses around 250 stores and 50 offices, was engulfed in flames, and images broadcast by Iranian media show several floors in flames and columns of black smoke. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the causes of the fire and has issued an arrest warrant against the building's contractor. Although fires are common in Iran, they rarely cause casualties. In the past, similar incidents, such as an explosion in a clinic in Tehran in 2020, have resulted in loss of life.
