The massive dust cloud, known in meteorology as a haboob, engulfed areas of the Phoenix metropolitan area on Monday evening, reducing visibility to nearly zero.
The dust storm was quickly followed by violent storms that devastated the city, leaving behind downed trees, wind damage, and widespread power outages.
