Five police officers died in Spain following a serious accident on the highway.

Five officers of the Regional Police of Navarra lost their lives on Wednesday morning in a traffic accident on the AP-8 highway, heading towards Bilbao, near the locality of Elgoibar, province of Guipúzcoa, completely blocking traffic towards Behobia. The van they were in was involved in a collision with a tanker truck registered in France.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident.

Initial information suggests that the police van and the truck were traveling parallel when the collision occurred.

The officers were heading to a training session at an important training center in Iurreta.
