As of Tuesday, Denmark takes over the presidency of the European Union, with a priority on the continent's security and increased defense spending in line with NATO commitments. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen underlined the importance of setting a clear target for defense, with a commitment of 5% of GDP by 2035. Denmark will also promote innovative solutions to combat illegal immigration and will work with other countries to push for a reinterpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights in this area.
