Czechia receives 114 million euros from the EU Solidarity Fund after the floods in 2024

The funds will support the restoration of essential infrastructure affected by natural disasters.

Brussels, December 22, 2025 – The European Commission has transferred 114 million euros to the Czech Republic from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to support reconstruction efforts following the devastating floods of September 2024. The funding is intended to cover costs related to the restoration of public infrastructure and essential services affected by the disaster.

According to the Commission, the funds can be used retroactively for eligible expenses incurred from the very first day of the damage occurring. The financial support will particularly contribute to restoring infrastructure in key sectors such as transport, water supply, and wastewater management, which were severely affected by the floods.

The provision of financial support was made possible after the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union approved the Commission's proposal to provide assistance through the Solidarity Fund to several countries in Central and Eastern Europe affected by the same climate disaster.

The Commission emphasizes that the EU Solidarity Fund represents the main European instrument for post-disaster support, providing financial assistance to member states and candidate countries in the event of major natural disasters. Since its establishment in 2002, the fund has mobilized over 10 billion euros to respond to 147 natural disasters.

The European Union Solidarity Fund was created to enable the EU to respond quickly and effectively in major emergency situations caused by natural disasters. It supports the reconstruction of essential infrastructure and the functioning of basic public services in affected regions.
