According to the statements of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Cuba has accepted a humanitarian aid offer worth 100 million dollars from the United States. However, Cuba has not officially confirmed the acceptance of the offer, stating that it is examining the proposal. Rubio emphasized that the U.S. will not provide aid that could end up in the hands of the Cuban military apparatus, which could confiscate the goods and sell them.
In a separate move, former Cuban president Raul Castro has been indicted in the U.S. for murder, which has intensified pressure on the communist regime in Havana. Rubio stated that although the president has the option to take military action, a diplomatic solution is preferred, considering that Havana poses a threat to U.S. national security.
