Christie’s auction house in New York will organize a series of auctions dedicated to extremely valuable musical items in March 2026. Among the most notable pieces is Kurt Cobain's 1969 Fender Mustang guitar, used in the recordings of the albums 'Nevermind' and 'In Utero', as well as in the iconic music video 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. This guitar, part of Jim Irsay's collection, could reach an estimated price of up to 5 million dollars.
The auction will also include rare items from The Beatles, such as Ringo Starr's first drum kit, guitars belonging to John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison, and handwritten lyrics for 'Hey Jude'. The items will be displayed to the public at Christie’s galleries before the auction, which will take place between March 3 and March 17, 2026, with an exhibition open from March 6 to March 12. This collection is part of 'The Jim Irsay Collection', recognized as one of the most valuable in music history.
