Wang Yi made the call in the context of trade tensions between China and the EU over the imposition of tariffs on imports of electric vehicles from China. He underlined the importance of dialogue and cooperation as bilateral relations are going through a tense period marked by anti-dumping investigations and provisional measures on both sides.
