China reacted to the pressures from American President Donald Trump to stop oil imports from Russia, calling them an attempt at "intimidation."
The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, emphasized that China is conducting legitimate economic cooperation with various countries, including Russia.
Trump mentioned that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to halt purchases of Russian oil, in the context of efforts to reduce Moscow's energy revenues following the invasion of Ukraine. Although India and China are major importers of Russian oil, Trump imposed tariffs on Indian imports but avoided similar measures against China.
Beijing believes that U.S. actions undermine international trade rules and threaten the stability of global supply chains.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, China has adopted an ambiguous position, calling for respect for the territorial integrity and security concerns of all parties involved.
