China has announced a package of measures to strengthen ties with Taiwan, including the resumption of direct flights and trade facilitation. The decision was made following a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwanese opposition leader Cheng Li-wun, the president of the Kuomintang (KMT). The plan, presented by the Communist Party's Taiwan Affairs Office, includes ten measures aimed at expanding economic, social, and cultural exchanges, as well as improving communication between the CPC and KMT. Among the proposed initiatives are the resumption of direct flights and the encouragement of individual travel from Shanghai and Fujian to Taiwan. It is also expected to facilitate the entry of Taiwanese agricultural products into the mainland market and support the development of small enterprises. The measures aim to promote the peaceful development of relations and improve the well-being of residents on both sides of the strait. The announcement comes amid increasing Chinese military pressure on the island and the possible visit of American President Donald Trump to Beijing.
